Ruthin had already started their celebrations after beating Wrexham in what most people took to be the play-off for the North East Wales Premiership. Then news came through that Mold Seconds had hammered title hopefuls Abergele by 60-6 in a shock result and had actually claimed the title by overtaking Ruthin on points scored aggregate. Wrexhams tries came from lock Iwan Roberts (2), number eight Gareth Noon and centre Ross Roberts, outside-half Carl Pugh adding a conversion. Ruthin relied on their quicker backs to beat the visitors for whom prop Chris Phillips was in top form in a dominant pack. |

Wrexham trailed by 0-17 at
half-time with their North East Wales Premiership ambitions apparently in tatters, but
they managed to fight their way back into the game in the second-half and turned the
tables on the Seasiders. The
tactical change of sending on flanker Mark Jones at the start of the second-half worked
well and Wrexham won the game with tries from lock Iwan Roberts, wings Dave Thomas and
Scott Davies plus two important conversions from outside-half Richard Lloyd. |

Hooker John Gill was the undisputed Man of the Match while replacement wing Dave Thomas delivered another good performance. |

Two more conversions came from flanker Rhodri Ifans while Rhodri Davies enjoyed an outstanding game at scrum-half. |

Wrexham Seconds demolished visitors Denbigh Seconds leapfrog them into second place behind Mold 2nds in the North East Wales Division A Championship. A minutes silence was observed before the match as a mark of respect for the memory of North Wales Referees Society officer Brian Honey who died recently and whose funeral took place on Monday. Wrexhams tries came from Wayne Roberts (3), Simon Williams (2), Tony Medcalf (2), Jason Parry, Nick Perrin, Carl Turner and Ben Cheesbrough, while Williams (2), Perrin and Carl Pugh shared the conversions. Jason Parry was voted Man of the Match for an outstanding performance. |
